Full grown meadows, green forests, sweet scented breeze; this is what it means to experience and enjoy the Wiedtal. In the midst of this natural nugget is the climate health resort of Roßbach.

Roßbach on the edge of the Westerwald, in the Mid-Wiedtal and at the foot of the Roßbacher Mound, is an unique opencast basalt mine. The Roßbacher Mound has been a part of the community of Breitscheid for several years, but has still retained the name of Roßbach. The place is not far from the border with North Rhine Westphalia. Some of the big cities in the vicinity are Koblenz, Bonn and Cologne.

The Community of Roßbach also includes several other towns besides the principal town after which it has been named: like Niederbuchenau, Oberbuchenau, Lache, Reifert, Spreitchen, Schimmelshahn and Scheuerchen.

The Roßbacher Mound is the hallmark of this place. This is a trekking destination well worth the while, with an educational trekking path leading up to its summit, with interesting views into the origin and decomposition of basalt. This climatic health resort recognised by the State is the starting point for rambles along the Wied or in the adjoining valleys of the Elsbach, Wallbach and Masbach.

Roßbach was first mentioned in the year 1307 as a court of the Waldbreitbach settlement of the Teutonic Knights, who are supposed to have been in existence since 1250. In the 15th century, the Court of Buchenau (Hof Buchenau) and in the 16th century, a court in Spreitchen and the chapel were also mentioned. In a census ordained by the Prince Elector of Cologne in 1660, Roßbach had 22 houses and Reifert three inhabited courts. In 1742 one of these is referred to as the Mühle or mill, in 1758 Lache was designated as a court and in 1767 a chapel was mentioned for the first time in Reifert. The dialect spoken in Roßbach is the "Roßbe Platt", a language variant specific to the Rhine, closely resembling the Cologne dialect.
